I first heard about Lydia, oh, must have been at least a year before I met her, from Krissy Donovan. We were in the middle of a shoot at the time, and the phone rang. Krissy was working with two models that afternoon, and one of them, Lydia, she assured me I would love. "She's got really long red hair, and all natural." Hey, sounds good to me! But Lydia was due to leave either that night or early the next morning, and we were in the middle of a very busy week. I frowned; we had to say no to the mystery redhead.
Shortly after that, I saw Lydia's photos and realized that I'd actually had an email from her at some point letting me know she was coming to town. Of course the reason we hadn't booked her then was the same reason we had to say no to Krissy, we had a very full week. Lydia wasn't exactly nearby, Washington state is about as far away from New York as you can get and still be in the same country. I saw she'd worked for lots of people in NY though, and I hoped she'd eventually return.
She seemed just as happy as we were to finally connect. She commented that our work looked so good, and that maybe it was the fact that we use film instead of a digital camera. (We're just too broke to buy a really, really GOOD digital camera and wouldn't rely entirely on anything less.) Of course once a model tells us she likes our stuff -- the pressure's on.
Like all the shoots we did that weekend, this one
was too brief. I was determined to get something different than the
damsel-in-distress style pictures of Lydia I'd seen around, and I think
we did. Heck, we even got a couple of grins! (I don't know that I'd
be so chipper with a stick of wood in my mouth.) I have
a feeling this is just a tiny taste of what Lydia can do, and hopefully
we will get a chance to see some more.
